Punky Reggae Insanity

I try not to label music, because sometimes an artist/band/whatever you prefer, has such a varied sound that it is often stifling to them and difficult and unnecessary to the listener. Like "Punk"...what the hell? It confuses me, but I like the confusion. I watch the interviews of artists who seem insulted by the term and then there are the ones who love it and wallow in it. Whatever you choose to call it, I would like to quote the wise oracle: Music makes the people come together. Personally, it is definitely a "whatever floats your boat, it floats mine" situation.

The Kid are a Swedish band I am taking for a spin. This song was chosen because it fits the theme of the day, plus I just feel like it.

The Kid - I Just Wanna Play Punk Like Daddy

Upon first listen, I had a love/hate relationship with Helen Love but today it's all love baby. I love the insanity, the references/name-dropping in the songs, and the speed. It's quite fun.

Photobucket

Helen Love - Debbie Loves Joey

The lyrics to this X-Ray Spex song make me giggle and the line about Richard Hell is a goodie, because who doesn't love them some Richard Hell?

X-Ray Spex - Let's Submerge

The video I am posting is really good and features interviews with a lot of people that you do not see in the usual "punk" documentaries, such as Jordan and Jerry Nolan!! I cannot lie...I saw The Sex Pistols reunion in 1996 and I loved it. My favorite moment of the show was the madness that was the opening riff of Pretty Vacant, which as we learn in this documentary, borrows from one of the best bands ever : Abba!!! It's a bit long, but so worth it.NSFW.

Punk and The Sex Pistols

Reggae in its many styles was a favorite of a lot of the early bands like The Sex Pistols, The Clash, and The Slits. The heavy melodic bass sounds soothe and lift. We find ourselves wandering, yet guided by the music that watches over us and our delicate aural apparatus, time and time again.

Big Youth and John Lydon

English Girl - Sister Audrey

Junior Byles has such a sweet voice. Nuff said.

Junior Byles - Fade Away

Dr. Alimantado - Best Dressed Chicken In Town

This is another video that is everywhere at once, but it's too catchy to ignore.

Le Roux - Quicksand

This was a difficult post because I had to use massive restraint. There are so many songs that could have been posed. Reggae and dub would have been absolutely mental since there is so much greatness, but I had to resist. Same with the punky music. A specific example is the version of "London Boys" from Johnny Thunders' album "So Alone". If you are familiar with the song and the lyrics, you would see the flakes of awesome irony that is Steve Jones and Paul Cook from The Sex Pistols contributing guitar and drums on that version. I've lost control again.

You Bastard- You've Broken My Bullshit Meter !

Well, this week has been intense, so I'm going to keep it short and sassy. I will say that I am over people trying to cover their creepiness by claiming they are "artists". If you have to keep reminding people that you are an "artist" (Please note sarcastic quotation marks enveloping the word artist. I am talking about a specific type of skeeze here.), maybe you need a new game plan? I know it's always a gamble meeting people in altered states in clubs, but bullshit is bullshit, and my bullshit meter was a tickin'!

Anyway, speaking of artists...I'm really liking The Phantom Band and the pictures of their live performances on their page made me think of Magritte's The Lovers jamming the feck out.

The Phantom Band - The Howling

Magritte - The Lovers

I'm in a gooey, poppy, nearly demented state caused by The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart and I must admit that I like it. Imagine Shoegaze stylings entwined in a ball of pink cotton candy and it would maybe sound like this? The video is also sugary sweet.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Everything With You

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Everything With You

Marybell Katastrophy are another band I've been listening to a lot as I walk through life. I am actually having a hard time describing the music since it seems different from song to song, but the one consistency is that it's a solid album.

Marybell Katastrophy - His Desperate Voice

I don't know much about The Airborne Toxic Event other than the fact that I am loving their sound. I am into lyrical content and they deliver both musically and lyrically, which leaves me happy and intoxicated.

The Airborne Toxic Event - Sometime Around Midnight

The Airborne Toxic Event - Sometime Around Midnight

I know this video has been on every blog and its mama, but this is so good that I'm going to post it too. I loved this song the second I heard it and I put it on a mix for a fellow blogger and I told him they would be taking over blogs and music sites in general. I was right. Bump ya'll if you are over the song, because this video is some epic Duran Duran shit:

Out In The Street

Street photography is something I've always been interested in,because it makes such random day-to-day activities that may be taken for granted seem fascinating. The spur of the moment shots and the realness are what appeal to me the most. Bruce Gilden is a photographer I enjoy not only because of his work (A Beautiful Catastrophe is my favorite), but his personality. In the video below, I think he is spot on with a lot of his comments, so take a walk with Bruce:

Dancing is good for you. Fact. I like to let loose and be as decadent, insane, naughty, and fun as I can be on the dancefloor...otherwise, what's the point? Sometimes you just have to shake a tail feather and give in to the music and the atmosphere. Shake your rat's nest!

Come Dancing - The Kinks

The Jam Was Moving - Debbie Harry

Dance - ESG

Do The Strand - Roxy Music

Grindin' & Shakin' - Yo Majesty

The Doolang - Andrea Carroll

Death By Go-Go - Dean and The Weenies

BAILANDO - ALASKA Y LOS PEGAMOIDES

While on the topic of dance and decadence, Anita Berber was a performer who embodied decadence in her dancing, acting, performance art, and life.

Let's face it, music has intoxicating, magical, and healing powers. Whether we are being moved by the bassline, having our heartbeats replaced by something more pleasant pulsing from the speakers, or allowing it as a whole to feed us and nurture us...it has been and always will be there. Music is a constant. The music posted above is for bringing the heat, so these are for cooling it down a bit...just a wee bit though, so don't get all kooky.

Dance With Me - Nouvelle Vague

Gimme Danger - The Stooges

Angel From Above - Horace Andy

You And The Night And The Music - Little Annie

I included The Stooges because Iggy is one of the most energetic and mental dancers ever!

Leaping The Wonderwall

Be warned...I'm feeling nostalgic. In the early 1990's I was freakishly into Brit Pop and found myself checking out magazines like Select for my fix. Today, I watched an episode of Seven Ages of Rock, which was dedicated to British Indie and it took me back to times of extreme drunken behavior, dancing, and late-night sing-alongs. Now that I think about it, except for the music, not much of that has really changed and I like it that way. Would you like a ride in my time machine?

Suede - Animal Nitrate

Phonogram is a brilliant comic that also took me back to Brit Pop. Everything about this was brilliant: the story, the characters, the art! The cover art for all issues referenced album covers that were a big deal at that time, take a peek and see if you remember the albums. The following is a tribute to Pulp's This Is Hardcore:

The Long Blondes are no more, but they have a Brit Popiness about them. This video is a tad bit scary...like some hipster eye porn with a Cindy Sherman-style wig tossed on it:

Wealth and Taste...Brian Jones' Maracas

Today, I joined various loved ones at City Hall to make our voices heard regarding GLBT rights. This event was part of a national protest and it was a great time, despite the cold and rain. As you know, I've been all sickly lately, but if I get sick again from being in the treacherous weather...it will all be worth it.

I don't know about you, but in cold and damp conditions, I like to snuggle up under a fuzzy blanket and watch things...like videos!!!
I love Bongwater. They are crazy and campy and everything that I need in times like these. This clip is pretty strange, but I love it.

Bongwater - "You Don't Love Me Yet"

The Rolling Stones performing one of my favorite songs...ah, what more can I say that has not been spewed about them a million times over? Nothing, so I'll let the video speak to you and touch you...
The Rolling Stones - "Sympathy For The Devil"

I have been tearing through my albums lately and I found Basement 5. You should find them too and to save you a hunt, here is a lil bit:

Do you remember Fischer-Z? This may be a bit creepy, but...what isn't?

Last but certainly not least, is the new video by Florence and The Machine. I love her so much! This video has a hint of The Cockettes to it, so enjoy!

Sassy , Raspy, and Foggy

I am loving the crisp, cool evenings. I am not loving the fact that I have spent the last week in a haze of meds and cough syrup...well, the foggy haze part was pretty ace to be honest. I think I'm basically back to my normal frisky, psychotic self, despite the fact that I may have broken something in my foot last night? Hmmm, perhaps going drinking with little sleep, kinda weak from illness, and not eating was not a wise decision....

I love Pulp! Sassy.

Pulp - Party Hard

I was advised by Venus With A Penis that I needed more PJ Harvey in my life. He was right. He was also correct when he told me I would love this song:

PJ Harvey - The Faster I Breathe The Further I Go (Demo)

I don't know if I'm in love or in like with Cajun Dance Party; however, I have strong feelings for this song and may take it out for a slice of pizza and a shot.

Cajun Dance Party - Colourful Life

Finally, I give you one of the scariest videos....EVER! This is the shit that nightmares are made of and will possibly scar you for life. The bitch is evil on a stick. Oh, do you think it's a coincidence that this little hellspawn's bow is red and pointy like devil horns? Yeah, me neither.

So, as winter approaches and the inevitable plague I have of lack of sunlight in the winter disease-S.A.D. "Seasonal Affective Disorder" as I've heard it called-I find that the term crazy or feeling nutty coming into play a lot lately by myself and others. I admit it, I'm a nutter. With these feelings of trying to control something bubbling and the urge to go all Sybil on everyone's ass, I take comfort in the fact that it is what drives my art as well. I am most proud of my work after days and weeks of contemplating the reasons of why, what is it all for, who am I, who are they, blah, blah, blah yackety-smackety. So, in celebration of my nuttiness at times and the fact that I only see it getting worse as I grow older, I leave you with the some funny nutty putty.

Live Fast Die Old! Or Something Like That...

Ahh, all the Halloween festivities are over, so we're back! Sorry if the post is lazy today, but my sinuses have decided to turn on me like the bastards they are and totally gave me a kick to the dollsnatch. I love you Nathan Barley!

I'm really loving the band Salem lately. For some strange reason I am drawn to bands with both male and female vocals and I cannot get enough of this pair. Imagine if you will, The Chromatics purging on mind-altering chemicals and bludgeoning you to death in your sleep while singing you a lullaby, and it would most likely sound something like Salem.

You can see the video for Dirt, but be warned it is NSFW.

Warm Music For Chilly Mornings

Woke up, put on some big fluffy wool socks and turned the music on immediately. Today started off with lots of girl groups from the 60's (yes, I'm slightly obsessed), which led me to change it up a bit to The Ettes , who I love, love, love right now. They have sass and killa style, which along with catchy tunes are some of the things that make them so appealing. Check them out!
Photobucket
You Can't Do That To Me - The Ettes

Old music rocks my socks, so I want everyone to hear Helen Kane. Her voice is so cute and if it sounds a bit familiar, that's because she is one of the inspirations for Betty Boop.

I Want To Be Bad - Helen Kane

Nina Kinert's album Pets and Friends is great for wasted Saturday mornings...actually, it's great for lots of things, so give it a whirl.

Do you ever just grab an album out of your stash on a whim? Last night, I did that with Jeff Buckley. I remember the first time I heard his voice and it was one of those times when you just know you've found something incredible.

Not So Invisible Loud Mouth People-Hurray !?!

Photobucket

Oh what fun it is to be invisible sometimes (or not). I found this Chinese artist the other day-can't remember what his name is, but his concept and technique rock!

I was discussing with my friend the other night, the question of shy people who after drinking become the world's biggest mouth and garbage can of trash talk- whether its in good fun or nastiness. You know the ones; the volume control on their mouth breaks at about 5 drinks in and the only way to sooth the beast is too find another loud ass drunk who is doing the same thing. It's funny too because when you pair them up, the world goes back to normal and yet they just blare whatever they want to talk about at each other and never hear a word from the other person. God love 'em- if we didn't those obnoxious bastards entertaining us, where would we be? If you see me leaving at the first sight of one of these people, don't fret- I've just been around them a little too much sometimes. Here's some sweet tunes to get you ready for October's moments of fun.......

Johnny Thunders' Hair

I needed to do a bit of mental cleansing, so I went for a drive. It reminded me of the times I would just venture out mostly for night rides, full of smoke, stars, and music. One summer was the summer of Jane's Addiction, where we listened to almost nothing but them, to the point of nausea. Today felt like one of those days.

Jane's Addiction - Classic Girl

I don't talk about art enough, which I will change. One I'm quite fond of and want everyone to see is A Glove by Max Klinger , so check it out! This is my favorite Abduction:

Last night was an interesting night. I ran into some old friends, had awkward moments, and tried to avoid stepping in dog shit. While waiting in line for the potty, a tipsy girl mentioned how big and cool my hair looked, which was nice. New York Dolls-era Johnny Thunders is basically one of my hair idols and he was fucking amazing.

Speaking of Johnny Thunders, here is a video for Crawfish. It stars Johnny Thunders and Patti Palladin. Sorry about the quality, but it's worth the watch.

A Look Back

Honestly, I feel a bit drained, so I had nothing panned to give you today. Then, I felt horrid for neglecting you, so I thought I'd share even more videos. Certain life situations call for certain eye-candy, textures, smells, or whatever floats your boat, to accompany whatever emotion or thought you may be experiencing. I'm a bit shit and decided to go for "comfort" today. As always, there's a visual buffet since I am feeling a hot, hot mess. Ha!

Antony and The Johnsons - Hope There's Someone

Leonard Cohen - The Stranger Song

Patrick Wolf - Tristan

Chris Corner and Simon le Bon - The Chauffer

Honestly, I could go for whatever Simon's on, haha.

The Stranglers - Strange Little Girl

I promise I'll be back on my game soon. Despite the lazy post today, I'm actually pretty awesome and into giving music and goodies to the masses, so fear not. Life's too short for ugly.

Observing Past Lives and Lowlifes

Ever get the feeling you've lived many lives? Not in a Shirley MacLaine infomercial way and not to sound kooky, but I miss one of the old lives I once had. The life where I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. One day I shall regain this elusive bastard and make it mine again. I want every day to be like a Leonard Cohen song, where I have artists, musicians, and passionate people around telling me of their secrets and their desires for their craft. Wine and other spirits will flow and there will be clouds of smoke carrying the dreams and conversations from one person to the next. I want to cover the floor with items that inspire me. Photos, feathers, and whatever the hell I feel like adding to the mix at any given time, sticking to my bare ink-stained feet as I dance about to whatever music is in my heart and soul.

I love you Leonard Cohen and your lyrics touch a hardcore thing in me!
Suzanne - Leonard Cohen

The image is a sculpture by Louise Bourgeois and fits perfectly with the next song. Marianne Faithfull is another performer, whose voice I love. This one is one of those Stones/Faithfull songs that she does so, so much better. Don't believe me? Then listen for yourself:
Sister Morphine - Marianne Faithfull

Any fans of The Slits? I love The Slits more than I can explain and I adore New Age Steppers, which featured Ari Up , Neneh Cherry, and various other Slits members. The Steppers were produced by Adrian Sherwood on his On U Sound label, which is one of my favorites for dub, etc. Feel it!

Speaking of Ari Up, her stepfather John Lydon has a new commercial! You like?

Sharing the Wealth that is Searchable Entertainment

Alright, if you're reading this than obviously you surf the web. I have become addicted to my favorite sites like a morning newspaper reader. I get up early, check my favorite sites and before I go to bed I do the same. They are my connection with people that I feel are like minded with me. Art, music, weird shit that makes me laugh or pissed off- all of it is what I crave on a daily bases for entertainment. Well viewers, let me share the wealth of my searching. I present to you some of my favorite sites and with a click of the image you too can visit them.Let us begin......

Wired Magazine is one of my all time favorite magazines and when I found out that they had a daily zine/ blog set-up, I freaked out. I check this site more like 5 times a day for up to date news on the world and cool shit. This sight is addicting for sure.
Photobucket

For my music news on album releases, tours or events in the music world, I turn to Pitchfork Media. They are on top of their shit and have people feeding them news insights like 24hours a day. When someone in the music world dies-they know it first. When a tour is announced-they know it first.Get my drift? Check 'em out.
Photobucket

This site is for the men out there. The Art Of Manliness- a site dedicated to teaching men all the shit your fathers and grandfathers should have. Everything from how to shave with a straight razor to what kind of hat fits your face. When I found this site, I wasn't so pissed at my dad for not telling me stuff like this while I was growing up.Thanks Art of Manliness, you are my father figure now.
Photobucket

I love Kitsune Noir! A guy named Bobby runs it and he's based out of L.A. He has good taste in art, fashion, music, etc. and likes to share the wealth of knowledge as well.He makes some good mix-tape style downloads as well. Take a journey into his world for a bit.
Photobucket

I dig F-F-F-Found. This is a picture hunters dream come true. Anybody can add there, but it seems to be pics and art of the weird and cool. I use this site for inspiration when I'm feeling dry.
Photobucket

Drawn! is a site that is for any of you art lovers out there that are into animation, cartoons, illustrators, or doodlers. It has the best write ups on illustrators and animators and they post video clips too which helps put a picture to the face. I spend hours here when I want to be entertained.
Photobucket

Last but not least is Burda Style. Some of you might know of this site already, but I just got into the idea of making my own stuff and this site rocked my world. This is a sweet sewing site that has patterns, tutorials, and tips of the trade. I learned what seemed like 5 years worth of shit in one day just watching their how-to s and reading other peoples comments and concept ideas.Way cool.Go make something and drop the man and what he's selling.
Photobucket

If anybody has cool sites that they visit let us know! It's basically the newspaper of today and the more you know the more fun it is to read. Whoot! whoot!

Office Politricks - A - Go- Go

Is it too much to ask for an easy life? I have an overwhelming feeling of doom, which is more than likely work-related. Surprise, surprise. Since we are experiencing "space issues", some of us lucky gold ticket holders have to share our desks with another person. I have yet to meet this beast, but one of her relatives and another of her former co-workers have informed me that she is a total hag composed solely of steaming hot garbage. Nice, really nice. I have issues with people I do not know invading my personal space and it does not like to be tainted by bitter women who cannot work because they are too hung the fuck over from football parties. After venting and exorcising my inner demons, I have decided to be open-minded about the situation until I meet her. Then, if she touches my belongings or invades my space bubble, I shall slay her.

Erase my hideous drama with this gem and let us all "Knock on Wood" so I don't put her head through a wall, shall we? Ammii Stewart to the rescue!

Luckily, Friday is soon come. I cannot wait to go get cocktails and dance. Friday is my big day to say fuck off to the work week and go out and get intoxicated by music, drinks, and good company. My easy life begins under the warmth of the club lights as I sweat out all of the toxins of life in general. Songs I have been into as I bitch and moan and try to cleanse myself of this feeling of hatred are what you are getting today. Hey, atleast you don't have to share your aura with some withered piece of...or maybe you do? I hope not! Go out this weekend and wiggle it ya lil' dirties!

Broken Cars = Broken Hearts

I have really tried to quit the car man. I mean really. I walk when I can and got my bike up and running, but I need my car sometimes. I think that's why she went out on me. She knows I'm trying to quit her. My car can feel this relationship coming to a weekends only kind of relationship and it's driving her mad.
Photobucket

It really sucks when other people are relying on me to get somewhere, pick them up, or other things on my list that need a car to do so. She knows this. "Fuck me? Noooooo-fuck you," she says to me. Car, I will always want to be with you, but you cost a lot of extra money and the environment is tired of your shit and the way you guzzle gasoline like you have an "all-you-can-drink" tab going down at the pub. So, until the world changes or I have to retro-fit you into my dream Mad Max style vehicle because the world has gone bezerk, you will have to bear with the fact that we will see each other when we can.
Photobucket

I am dedicating this post to my car, the bitch that broke my heart this week. I will have you up and running in a day, I swear.Until then, here are some tunes to help remind me of you-silly car.

Trippy Is As Trippy Does...

It's not always drinking and dancing here (that was last night), don't forget we enjoy other forms of art and creativity as well. I love posting music, but today I decided to talk about movies. While I enjoy most genres (ugh, please kill me now for using that word)I do love camp. A while back, I stumbled upon a film called Skidoo and once I saw the cast, I knew I had to watch. Admittedly, I do not handle psychedelics well at all. It's a bit like when I was in high school and ate a handful of Dramamine and tried driving only to watch the hood of my car start flexing. I pulled over and sat in there for hours with friends just whispering deranged thoughts and smoking, swearing we saw someone get murdered in a window of the house we were sitting in front of, so we left the car and ran into some bushes to hide. This movie is so trippy and the bonus is that I didn't feel like shit afterwards or sit in front of an aquarium crying and screaming for eight hours for reasons unknown to humans, plants, or animals. The film stars an arsenal of stars from yesteryear including Jackie Gleason, Carol Channing, and Groucho Marx as God. Need I say more? Enjoy the trailer with Timothy Leary and Sammy Davis Jr.:

Another movie I'm quite fond of is Smithereens. The film follows a girl who is trying to make her way in New York's East Village in the early 80's. The soundtrack is off the hook, like seriously it's not everyday you hear The Feelies and Singers & Players in a film. The double stuff in this Oreo, is that it stars Richard Hell!

I'm feeling all kids of groovy from the Skidoo, so how about some music from Smithereens?

Huff and Puff and Sweat Your House Down....

Sweaty moments.....
Photobucket

I'll admit it- I like to push myself until I'm a sweaty mess at times. When you a have a roomful of people who believe in the same condition it's even better! Punk shows, dance clubs, your favorite bath house (?), or any place that some kind of physical assertion on your part takes place is good for the body and the mind. If you're the kind of person who is grossed out by the body and its perfect system to maintain a comfortable level of heat, then stay away from me- I'll only break your heart and perception of me and dryness. Sometimes sweating is not cool- public buses, social events where being sweaty could cause you to lose a contact or future job, or holding babys (they tend to slip out of sweaty hands). The short and sweet of it today is, you NEED to sweat sometimes and if you're missing some songs that could help get you there, I have some ideas.......

Light As A Feather, Ring And Run, Bloody Mary...

Sometimes you just have to answer the door when life drops a steaming pile of baby shit on your doorstep, "ring and run" style. I've been listening to a lot of Leonard Cohen and his songs of love and hate, gypsies, dealers, beautiful and crazy acquaintances, and ghosts, which got me thinking about the beautiful losers I know and love. Decadence, debauchery, witty motherfuckers, substances, glitter, decay, desire, day old funk...these are just a few words that come to mind when I think of life as I know it; as it should be. I feel a change brewing, but not of the sort that can ever change my love of the underbelly of society. My daily routine, which is an act I feel is near to a hustle, reinforces my distrust of the so-called normal.

Desire- Tuxedomoon

I hate to be a drag, so I'll share a video instead:

Devil Lives In My Husband's Body -Pulsallama

Often at night, I find myself remembering spirits and the pranks of years gone by. One of these shadows I've been thinking of is an old friend of mine who had a severe phobia of knives. She would often spend the night and I would put a kitchen knife on the window sill in the darkened bedroom (covered in fake blood, of course) and tell her to look outside. She would open the curtain to look out, see the knife and scream her lungs out, while I roared with laughter...hyaena style. Although I love the dark, I've always been reluctant to play Bloody Mary in the mirror and reluctance turned to outright refusal after seeing the film Candy Man.

4 a.m. - Noblesse Oblige

My sick and twisted mind is quite feral for girl groups of the 60's. I really love the tragic tone on a lot of the songs as the cries of joy turn to an opposite emotion on the crazy spectrum of life. Big hair, big makeup, heels, switchblades. The tragically hip would be nowhere without the wicked fashion sense of bands like The Shangri Las, now would they? I don't hate, I appreciate?

Part of the Solution, not the Problem

So, as this rocket ship of hot smelly baby diapers begins to take off, I thought I would take some time to throw some artists that have made a move in my heart towards the belief in all things good. Art is the one communication that the human being uses in every day dealings to document history, push boundaries of belief structures, or just get off on. Art comes in many forms and as I post in the future I hope to bring to light many forms of art and artists that I dig. This post I have chosen a few people that I would like to share with the world.

Brian David Braun
Photobucket
Brian David Braun is an artist that has continually blown my mind with his ability to capture great subject matter and then tweak it until it becomes a form of graphic design. I have never been able to catch a gallery showing, but I can imagine it’s a bit of controlled chaos in a slinky dress. A feeling of old school punk attributes comes through on everything I’ve seen so far, and it only gets better. This piece above is one of my favorites. Click on the picture to take a journey into Brian’s world of art in his pics area. Cheers Brian for being a solution and not a problem!

Meet Cleaver Theater

Photobucket

Meet Cleaver Theater, a fairly new family is on the block and they have brought back the best of what I loved about USA’s Night Flight and classic old school public television shows. A touch of Mystery Science Theater 3000 with more of an Adams Family meets the Jetsons flavor- as they describe it, “I'd best describe our show as the by-product of a frightening (yet strangely erotic) copulation between Barbara Billingsley and Tim Burton... while Donna Reed watches." It's a dash of rockabilly, a smatter of the sublime and heaping scoop of hep all folded into some of your favorite b-movies from the 40s-90s.” I watch every release these kids have put out and the attention to details and forgotten facts is the major selling point for me. I can only imagine how much fun they have in pre-production planning .Click on their picture to go to their web site and see more of this classic in the making. Cheers to you Meet Cleaver Theater family for being a solution and not the problem!

Venis with a Penis
Photobucket
One of my favorite new writers that seem to hit the nail on the head with his rants and poetry is Venis with a Penis. His taste in music is impeccable and the album reviews are some of the best on-point pieces I’ve ever read. His passionate writings about the waste of society that seem to run everything are my favorites though. Click on his picture to read his writings in his blogs- they will move you one way or another .Cheers to you Venis with a Penis for being a solution and not a problem!

More people will be brought up in the future along with art that I think deserves to be brought to the surface. Stay tuned kids- and remember to ask yourself if you’re part of a solution or part of the problem.

Sleep Deprivation Leads To Another Galaxy

Lately, I've been running on little sleep and I'm not sure, but I may like it? Granted I get all tweaked out when I'm driving and constantly think I'm hearing something break, but I'm beginning to like the slight feelings of post-narcotic binge shivers and light-headedness.
Speaking of shivers, there are certain artists whose voices can give you the chills like temperatures in the negative. For me, Antony Hegarty of Antony and The Johnsons is one of these artists. For once my motor-mouth is at a loss for words, so I'll just let the voice speak for itself in this track by Joan As Policewoman:
I Defy (feat. Antony)

Florence and The Machine is another performer I cannot get enough of. Her voice is powerful and her songs are always a bit quirky and her cover versions and collaborations are not to be overlooked. Here she is covering Lightspeed Champion:
Galaxy of The Lost

I have no pictures today, but I do want everyone to see this:

Pickle Surprise

To wrap things up, I want you to dance, because what's life without dancing? Not much really. I fell hard as for this band when I first heard them and hopefully you will also enjoy Imbeciles and the Poison Umbrella.

Leaving a Mark as a Wallflower.

It seems that as a rule, I don't dance until drinks have been had and the world is a rose colored blur of loveliness. This makes for a great night out and nothing seems to bother me when I'm this fuzzy. I love the conversations, a discussion of a new art project or musical adventure is usually started with someone, and people flirt with one another like we're all stars in some 70's swinger movie.
I guess what I have been pondering is will I ever leave this behind and grow up? I can't see myself NOT having this in my life, so what good would it do try and stop, eh? I remember being in my teens and loving the club and nightlife the first time I got a taste of it. I would stand against the wall and watch people dance, drenched in sweat communicating the moments feelings in a form of body language and I would feel a romantic tingling all over just knowing that the power of music had taken over all of our senses. I was shy of course and my lack of self confidence left me being alone, standing against the wall watching others dance with each other. I studied every dance style I saw, every style of club lighting that flashed before me and what design it would make on the floor, and how deep the bass would get on certain songs and what it did to my tummy (still love that, but now I know it's a bit lower that tingles-not the tummy).
Drinks later I found that dancing was easy when I didn't give a shit, so I slowly pulled myself off the wall and eased my way unto the dance floor. Trance like emotions of fearlessness overtook me and I saw that my church was the club. I still do this ritual to this day and love it every week. I don't think I could ever be a straight edge, "healthy" person who enjoys the club and nightlife like I do now. I think they go hand-in-hand with each other. I know people out there go to clubs and just dance with no drinking all the time, but that's all I know after all these years. It's my communion. If you ever hear me say I'm going to clean up my act and leave this all behind- you will never see me again. I would rather leave it all behind and forget I was alive at one time in my life. This wallflower will probably just wither and die in the night life, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

So I want to share some of the more "left-of-field" style of tunes that have been haunting my head as of late.

Gang Gang Dance has a new one out that I think I love more than "God's Money".....
This cut has replace "Egowar" for me and I thank them for this- they deserve your attention.

Gang Gang Dance- House Jam

This next one is a cut off of Trolle & Siebenhaar's new album called "Couple Therapy". It's really good and reminds me of the flow and feelings I get from Nouvelle Vague.I swear the guy doing the duel vocals on this track sounds like Antony Hegarty from Antony and the Johnsons. You tell me......

Mother Nature Has A Wicked Backhand

Ahhh, Sunday is here to remind me of the horror that is the workweek. Last night was an interesting night where again, there was drink and dance. I checked out a club night I have never been to and it was refreshing to hear new music in the club, thanks to That Digital Kid.

I woke up with a sore throat, tasting like a dash of hot garbage, so I think Mother Nature called up Satan and decided to send me a reminder that I need to calm my ass down...or something? Bruises, both internal and external catalog my weekends. As I was looking for some music to share, I stumbled upon one of my Nan Goldin books and if you are not familiar with her work, she is worth checking out. Her photography is absolutely beautiful.

I want everyone to hear this Roxy Music song, because it is stunning.
In Every Dream Home A Heartache

Townes Van Zandt was a seriously underrated artist who also deserves a serious listen. This is one of my favorite songs by him.
Waiting Around To Die

To put some pop into the morning, I'm also tossing on Ladyhawke. Don't fret, no serious business here...just fizzy.

Friday Night, Saturday Morning

I think I'm still a bit intoxicated, but the blog must go on! I went out last night and woke up to such scandalous things, it would make your eyes bleed. I kid...it was just a typical night of sleep-deprivation and booze, which led to me passing out, waking up and drinking and dancing again on the early daylight hours. Enough about my Friday, for I want you to have a great Saturday. It felt great to go out all casual last night and get to drinking and having fun.I have a feeling home dance parties are going to take over the world and I want to help the cause, so we throw down mixes and get to it. More on that in the future...

I was in a mood for some John Cooper Clarke recently, so I listened to a homemade comp I have and it made me feel all warm and fuzzy for punk poets. Listen to him tell tales of what can be found on the Midnight Shift:

Midnight Shift

To counteract the heaviness of the John Cooper Clarke business, I want to put something light and fluffy. Hot Gossip was known mostly for their dancing, but this song is off the charts for me and my fellow blogger. This features siren Sarah Brightman and Billy Idol's ex Perry Lister.

The seasons are changing and the smell of hot garbage is alive in the air....

Whoa! The beginning of a new school year is upon us and this only means one thing- romance and parties! Fall is my favorite time of the year and with it comes a beautiful show of colors and smells. Hot garbage of the summer becomes luke-warm garbage of the fall and that's kinda nice. Dead leaves mixed with cocktails and costumes equals parties galore at every corner and a sense of romance has people cuddling up with each other.

With this in mind...... I think some classics with some new inspirational tunes are in order to help us along with hanging out with our chosen smelly friends.

Lily has some new stuff coming and this sneak peak wraps up the attitude of saying good-bye to an eight year run of destruction and ass-holery.
Photobucket

Lily Allen- Guess Who Batman

Love the fact that this will be the new "Na-na-na-na-hey-hey-hey-gooooodbyyye" song!

Mr. Alburn's new project with some of the kids of the Gorillaz, called Monkey, is out there now. This tune reminds me of cherry blossom trees blowing in the wind for some romantic imagery.
Photobucket

Monkey-Heavenly Peach Banquet
This one makes you feel all soft inside......mmmmm, soft hot garbage.

and finally, Deee-Lite is always a crowd favorite, but this tune is made for lovers and hot cider smooches!
Photobucket

Deee-lite- Apple Juice Kissing
Easy skankin' along with kissable apple-breath that is NOT hot garbage breath- always better in the long run!

I leave you with a picture that has left me in good spirits. A burger baby bringing you a delicious hot garbage sandwich. Mmmmmm, good times are here.

Pleasure for Pleasure

I need an intervention...an IAMX intervention. My name is (insert clever blogger alias here) and I am an addict. I'm so obsessed with this band that I listen to them at least once a day. Some of you may be familiar with IAMX front person Chris Corner from his work with Sneaker Pimps, Robots in Disguise, oodles of production credits, and The Mighty Boosh connection. He's a very busy bee and tours like a machine, so if you get the chance to see a live performance you should do so. Please don't get me started on my love of The Boosh, for I would be left a pile of hot garbage indeed.

Photobucket

I've heard the music described as dark-erotic-electronic, but it's good and label-defying and isn't that all that really matters? The beats are insane and the lyrics run from hot and bangin' to thought provoking. What more could you want? Strong visuals? They have them. I like the cabaret sex clown image they conjure in my brain. The Alternative is a great album for "talking" or screaming at the top of your lungs, or maybe a combination of the two?
I'm going to share two tracks with you:

"Spit It Out" is possibly my favorite track from the album The Alternative.
Spit It Out

"You're The Conversation (I'm The Game)" is from the soundtrack to the film Les Chevaliers du Ciel, and features Sue Denim from Robots in Disguise on lead vocals.
